We all know the saying “it’s in their genes.” For the men in my family, being an insurance professional was in our genes. I grew up with a father who spent most of his working life as a life insurance agent. Both my twin brother and I were fascinated by how many people he could meet with and help on a regular basis.
While I didn’t know insurance would be my calling yet, my brother did. He entered the business soon after a stint in school while I studied business management and tried to figure out what my career path should be. Seeing my brother become a successful agent satisfied in his career, I decided that I would enter the business. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. Now, I have a son who has been in the business for 17 years as well.
Creating Suncrest Strategic Advisors
My first foray into the financial services industry was back in May of 1977 when I became a life insurance agent. I worked for that life insurance company for nine years in various capacities before moving on to help build a unique and successful insurance and financial services marketing firm that served the banking community. While there, I served as the Executive Vice President and helped build a solid team and profitable enterprise over a 12 year period before we sold that business in 1997. After leaving the firm we had built from scratch, I then served as president of the insurance division for a high-end financial planning firm.
Over the years, I saw how frequently life insurance can be used to fully integrate and improve people’s financial plans. I loved the idea of helping people from a financial perspective, especially in regards to planning for how to deal with two of life’s most challenging financial events—retirement and death.
With this in mind, I decided to combine financial services with insurance planning and form my firm, Suncrest Advisors, in 2003. Since then, I’ve worked hard to build Suncrest Advisors into what it is today: a financial and insurance services firm providing innovative solutions designed to preserve and increase my clients’ personal and business wealth in a highly professional and ethical manner. Working with business owners, executives, professionals, and high net worth individuals across the U.S., I strive to provide financial security and peace of mind.
The Highs and Lows
Simultaneously running a business and working with clients is no easy task. And, in particular, it can be difficult separating fact from fiction when it comes to insurance. There is a lot of incorrect information about life insurance out there, so it’s not easy helping people understand how insurance can benefit them.
Despite the difficulties this career may present at times, I can’t imagine being in any other position. It’s so fulfilling to put a plan into place and then see the desired results come to fruition. I am driven every day by my desire to be the very best at my profession. I also strive to provide more than was promised and for all of my clients to be completely satisfied with my services.
